In preparation for the final season of Lost, I went back and gave a second (or third or fourth) viewing to the previous 5 seasons. And with the season 6 premiere just a few hours away, I have a number of items that I’m curious to see the show address over the final episodes. So I’ve made my own list (a common show theme) of a few of the mysteries that I would like to see concluded properly.
The Others
We got to see a lot of about our favorite band of natives back in season 3 but there’s a lot left to discover with these folks to say the least. We’ve seen that they’ve been focused on their fertility problems but I think there’s a greater overall purpose yet to be revealed. They seem to have people recruited around the world and they seem to have a limitless amount of resources. Is it all in the name of protecting the island or do they have other work to do?
Jacob/The Man in Black
After 2 years of hearing about Jacob, we finally got a look at him in the seasons 5 finale. And while we hadn’t seen him in the flesh before then I believe he, along with the currently nameless man in black have been controlling our story this entire time. We’ve seen plenty of corpses that have been up and walking around on the island as well as haunting the Oceanic 6. The question is what has been the purpose of the power struggle between these 2. Is it just a game between the two or do they have a higher purpose to their actions?
Ben Linus and Charles Whidmore
Charles is obviously obsessed with getting back to the island and reclaiming his place as the leader of the others. But, like Jacob and the man in black, there seems to be an unwritten rule that prevent these two from harming each other directly. Have they been controlling and manipulating people along the way for their own game?
The Smoke Monster
We’ve learned very little about the smoke monster in 5 years. Whenever the subject has been brought up the Others seem ignorant as to it’s actual origin and purpose. Although Ben seems to know how to summon it. I suspect the monster might be related to our re-animated corpses. When Jack did see his father in the hospital, the smoke detector was going off. Just saying…
Anyway, that’s a small taste of the many mysteries that we’ve seen over the past five years. What mysteries are you curious to see resolved?
